Racing individually or as a team?
You can compete either as an individual or a team in the Olympic triathlon relay at Laugarvatn 2021. If you choose to compete as a team, up to 3 individuals can share the duties where, for example, one swims, another rides and the third runs. In the relay race, prizes will be awarded for the top three places

The race course
The area surrounding Laugarvatn is incredibly beautiful and very suitable for triathlons. The water is only so deep that you can comfortably make contact with the bottom if you need to take a break. On the bike you will travel through great scenery, mostly on newly paved roads. The running track is unique, where you run along smooth paths in the vegetated forest.
Swim
On the lake there are three buoys that form a 750 meter triangle.
Olympic triathlon
2x laps, total 1500m
Half Ironman
2x laps and then to buoy no.1 and back to the finish, a total of 1900m

Bike
You cycle from the transition area, up Lyngdalsheiðarvegur and into the national park where you turn around on a paved parking-lot on Þingvallavegur. The road was recently re-paved and the conditions for competition are therefore very good. The turn-around point will have a drinking station, a toilet, some snacks and party music!
Olympic triathlon
1x lap, 45km & 315m ascent
Half an iron man
2x laps, 90km & 630m ascent

Run
Beautiful 5km ring that is mostly on soft ground, gravel and forest path. You run from the transition zone north along the lake and from there up a paved street to a campsite. From there up the a hill and back through a forest path. Over to Laugarvatnsvegur down Laugabraut towards the transition zone, but turn right. From there, a small loop to the south and then it ends at the transition zone.
